In the week preceding the National Rosslyn Park Schools 7s tournament, England 7s player Charlton Kerr (Cobham 16) came back to Stowe to speak and offer advice to the present U16 and U18 teams. It was whilst winning trophies at Rosslyn Park in his Lower and Upper Sixth that Charlton was first spotted by the England Academy 7s coaches. Shortly after, his talents were recognised by the full England side and he was selected for the 13-man England squad that plays on the international circuit. Charlton has just returned from Vancouver where England beat South Africa in the finals. He is now training hard for the Hong Kong leg of the circuit on 7-9 April.

Charlton did a Q&A session with the two squads, before putting them through a grueling sprint recovery fitness session. He then stayed on to watch the teams train and offer some final advice before the boys travel to Rosslyn Park next week.

Charlton’s England profile acknowledges the work of his school coaches, stating: “Craig Sutton taught me the basics of 7s and Alan Hughes guided me along in XVs”.

It was a wonderful opportunity for the Stowe boys to see what comes from hard work and determination.
