Help Equip Our NHS!

During these unprecedented times, the NHS have found themselves not only struggling to cope with the demand of the Corona Virus but lacking vital equipment to help them do their jobs. OS Milla Marinova (Lyttelton 03) has started a GoFundMe page to help support the NHS staff.

Milla writes,” I have become increasingly concerned about the quantities of medical equipment supplies and tests needed by our health and care system to tackle Coronavirus and have decided to start a national fundraising campaign called ‘Help Equip Our NHS’ to supply equipment urgently to NHS and care staff across the country, as I believe this is of utmost importance.

The Coronavirus has struck the UK in a matter of weeks and we are in desperate need for more medical supplies and tests to keep the NHS and social care staff safe, so they can continue to treat us in the months to come. Staff already report a lack of protective equipment and we have seen extreme medical supply shortages in Italy, a country who are already at their peak and it is predicted the UK will be at its peak in the coming weeks. Absolutely huge quantities will be needed to protect NHS front line staff including all those working in hospitals, the ambulance service, GP’s, social care workers, community care workers and others. European countries have grossly underestimated the numbers required and are now desperately hunting for more supplies. Every further piece of kit will protect patients and staff and save lives!

In Churchill’s words, ‘Give us the tools and we’ll do the job ourselves.’ Raising £5 million together will provide much-needed medical equipment and tests to the NHS, including;

Protecting staff: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Face Masks, Surgical Gowns, Aprons, Caps, Gloves, Goggles, Visors and Sanitiser Bottles
Providing Care: Ventilators and CPAP machines
Prevention: COVID-19 rapid antibody tests which give a result in 15 mins whether someone has already had the virus
