Dick-Watson-team-2016

Not only did the Old Stoic Golfing Society field two teams in different competitions on the same weekend but they both achieved the Society's best performances for many years.
The First Team led by Haydn Brooks reached the semi finals of the Grafton Morrish for the first time since 1994 with wins against Culford (2-1), Harrow (2-1), Eton (2.5-0.5) and Clifton (2.5-0.5) before loosing to the eventual winners, Birkenhead. Haydn Brooks and his partner, Peter Hale, led from the front while Charlie Rotheroe, Sean Morris, David Johnstone and Charlie Gartside all came in with crucial wins. Confidence grew after a very tight first round match against Culford at Brancaster in which both Stowe points came on the 18th and Saturday saw two good wins at Hunstanton.

The Second Team led by Jeremy Scowsill came fifth of 15 teams competing in the Dick Watson Trophy at Aldeburgh. The highlights of the weekend were Ian Bendell and Jeremy Scowsill getting the best score on Saturday morning and then beating last year's winners, Uppingham, in the fifth/sixth place play-off. The other two team members were William Hill and Nigel Wright who played a major part in the team's success.

These performances bode well for the development of a competitive team for the 2017 Halford Hewitt.
