England call up for Ben Duckett

16 September 2016

Ben-Duckett

Congratulations to Old Stoic Ben Duckett who has been named in the 17 man Test and ODI squad to tour Bangladesh.

Ben has been in fantastic form across all three formats of the game this summer, scoring nearly 1,400 runs in Division Two this season, averaging 60.82. His innings of 220 not out from 131 balls for the Lions against Sri Lanka A was a highlight of the summer.

Having narrowly missed out on a place in the limited-overs squads for the Pakistan series, we are thrilled to hear that Ben will be joining the tour to Bangladesh.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Ben said:

"I got a call a couple of days ago when we were having a team meal but it's been a bit of a strange morning, it hasn't really hit home yet. It was a little bit of a surprise. Everyone has been saying all summer that you can't play for England in Division Two so it's very nice that the selectors have looked past that.

It was almost third time lucky, with the T20 and the one-day stuff I got a call to say I'd just missed out but they're an unbelievable one-day squad so I wasn't surprised about that.

It was going to be tough to break into the side but a couple dropping out of the Bangladesh tour has given me a chance. I'm over the moon to be selected.”

Ben will be the first Stowe pupil to play cricket for England if selected in the starting XI. We are incredibly proud of his achievement and wish him every success for the tour.
