Supporting Down’s Heart Group
3 September 2019
We are proud to announce that this year's OS Christmas Carol Concert will support the work of Down’s Heart Group, a small charity offering support and information relating to heart conditions associated with Down's Syndrome.
We are also very excited to announce that actor and presenter, Sally Phillips, will be performing a Christmas reading at the Concert. Sally is best known for having co-created and written sketch comedy show, Smack the Pony. She is also known for her roles in Miranda, I'm Alan Partridge, Parents and Set the Thames on Fire. Sally also co-starred in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and the played the role of Sharon in all three films of the Bridget Jones franchise.
Down’s Heart Group offers help and support to individuals and their families by providing counselling, information and non-medical advice. In addition to this, they promote research into the specific problems of heart conditions associated with Down’s Syndrome and disseminate useful finding and results to those affected.
Each year, we choose a different charity to support. This year’s charity was proposed by Talulla Barrow (Lyttelton 07). Her family had barely any support available when her brother, Barnaby, was born in 1986 and she therefore feels that Down’s Heart Group is an incredibly important charity, providing an essential service to those who need it.
Talulla writes, “My parents were fantastic when we were growing up and Barnaby is such an incredible asset to our family but it has not been an easy road to get to where we are today. It is always important to have help available to you so that you can spend less time worrying, and more time enjoying the happy, perfect time with someone like our amazing Barnaby.”
Barnaby and friends from his school have kindly helped with some illustrations for this year’s concert programme.
All Old Stoics, Stowe Parents and Friends of Stowe are warmly invited to attend this year's OS Christmas Carol Concert, at Chelsea Old Church, on Monday 2 December 2019, from 7.00pm onwards. After the concert, mulled wine and mince pies will be served in Petyt Hall.
The concert will include sing along carols and performances by Stowe Music School and Old Stoics. Tickets are £15 to cover the cost of the catering. Click here to buy tickets.
At the end of the concert, a collection will be taken for Down’s Heart Group.
