Curwen Prize 2025
18 June 2025
On Tuesday 17 June the recipients of the Curwen Print Prize 2025, Hebe Hanson (Lower Sixth, Nugent) and Annabelle Eldred (Lower Sixth, West) travelled to the Curwen Studio for their four-day residential experience at one of the most prestigious prints studios in the UK. This is an exceptional and cherished annual prize that has been cultivated over many years between Stowe and the Curwen Print Studio.
The Curwen Print Study Centre was established as an educational Fine Art Printmaking charity in the 1990s by Master Printer Stanley Jones MBE and local entrepreneur and art lover Sam Alper OBE. Simon Alper (Grafton 77), Sam’s son, came to Stowe in the late 1970s where his own love of Art was fostered and nurtured. The Curwen Print Scholarship started shortly after and to this day, gives two Sixth Form pupils the opportunity to study and work for a week under the tutorage of the Curwen master printmakers, developing their portfolios for A Level and Art School applications.
During the last 40 years of partnership between Stowe and the Curwen over 80 pupils have been fortunate enough to study with the late Stanley Jones, current Director Lorraine Chitson, and their exceptional technicians.
