A Lively October for the Old Stoic Society
12 November 2025
October 2025 was a month full of connection, celebration, and community for the Old Stoic Society, with events spanning the countryside and the city.
We began with a delightful gathering at The Newt in Somerset, where 18 local Old Stoics came together for a memorable day. The group enjoyed a beautifully curated Garden Tour, followed by a Cyder Tasting that showcased the best of Somerset’s orchards. A delicious lunch rounded off the visit, offering plenty of time for conversation and reconnection in a stunning setting.
Next, we headed to Exeter, home to a thriving group of OS currently studying at the university. We hosted an informal evening of drinks and food at a local pub, which was warmly received. It was wonderful to see familiar faces and hear about their academic journeys—and even more rewarding to spot one or two of them again at our Media, Marketing and Arts Networking Event in London on 6th November.
That London event was a true highlight, drawing Old Stoics from a wide range of industries and age groups. The atmosphere was alive with enthusiasm and positivity, with conversations full of hope, advice, and mutual support, regardless of career stage. It was especially heartening to reconnect with OS we first met at university drinks in Newcastle, Durham, and Exeter—now graduates, they’re stepping into the professional world and engaging with the community in new ways.
As part of this event, OS Jonathan Kemp (Walpole 79) gave an inspiring talk about mental health, the struggles he has overcome and shared news of his new book Finding Peace of Mind. We will all be following his progress on the epic charity walk he has planned. To follow Jonathan’s journey use this link https://linktr.ee/jonathankemplondon
October reminded us of the strength and warmth of the Old Stoic network. Whether over Cyder in Somerset or cocktails in London, the spirit of camaraderie and shared experience continues to thrive.
