6 January 2016

Happy New Year!

In addition to regular email updates in 2016 we will be also be using social media to make more Old Stoics aware of our activities.

We have set up an Old Stoics Golfing Society Facebook page and will also be using WhatsApp to push specific fixtures.

We look forward to you taking part in the growing range of OSGS events open to Old Stoic Golfers of all standards.

2016 Fixture List:

Please note there are still a few dates to confirm and updated versions will be circulated, as well as being featured on the OSGS section of the Old Stoic website.

If you have any queries contact:
Peter Simmons
Hon Secretary
p.j.g.simmons@herts.ac.uk
mob: 07957 141826

Don’t wait to be asked to play in any match, meeting or team event – just contact the match, meeting or team manager whose contact details are on the fixture list.

March fixtures:

Match v The School at Woking: 8th March
A team of six will play against the School on the practice day before the Micklem Trophy. Woking is a good early season course and we are teeing off from 12.09pm. Contact Peter Simmons p.j.g.simmons@herts.ac.uk or 07957 141826 if you are interested Recent leavers are particularly welcome

Northern Meeting at Formby: 11th & 12th March
This is a great meeting to kick off the New Year. We play both the Formby and the Formby Ladies courses with an overnight stay in the Dormy House. There are singles competitions both days with the David Hadfield Salver prize on the Friday - won by Charlie Consett in its inaugural year. This is a great value, sociable meeting for golfers of all standard with a 50% discount on the golf costs for those under 30.

Contact the Meeting Manager, James Gartside jamesgartside@macdonaldandtaylor.com or 078312 73991 if you want to play

Birkdale Bucket at Woodhall Spa: 19th & 20th March
The Birkdale Bucket in which 8 Northern schools compete provides an opportunity to play an excellent early season course. We need a minimum of four players and the more we have of all handicap levels the better the chance of us not ‘winning’ the Wooden Spoon as in 2015. Please find details of this meeting including the entry form here.

As with other team events the Society plays in it has been decided that the green fee cost for the two rounds (£80) will be funded by the OSGS.

If you want to play please complete the entry form and send it to Charles Webb – also inform Peter Simmons p.j.g.simmons@herts.ac.uk  or 07957 141826 and let us know you have entered so we can arrange to refund you the golf cost at the event

First Team Captain: Haydn Brooks
Haydn Brooks has started to plan for the Halford Hewitt in April with practice sessions scheduled for February and March. The Halford Hewitt draw takes place next Wednesday (13 January) at the East India Club.

If you want to be considered for the Halford Hewitt and Grafton Morrish teams please contact Haydn haydnbrooks@googlemail.com

OSGS database & subscriptions:

In 2016 we aim to increase our database with a particular emphasis on younger Old Stoic golfers therefore any names/email addresses you can pass on would be most welcome.

We are also chasing up those who are not currently paying a subscription or paying less than the current annual rate of £40. The focus is on those who represented the Society or played in meetings in 2015.

If you check your standing orders and find you are not paying £40 then the OSGS Bank details you need are:

Barclays, Old Stoic Golfing Society, Sort Code: 20-20-46, Account No: 80674516

We welcome any further suggestions on how we can make the Society more successful please contact Peter Simmons p.j.g.simmons@herts.ac.uk  mob: 07957 141826
