16+ (Sixth Form) Scholarships

Candidates may apply for a maximum of two Scholarships with assessments taking place in October and November 2025, when children are in Year 11.

All Scholarship candidates are required to complete CAT4 tests, an English Essay paper and a pastoral interview.

Scholarship candidates are required to undertake additional interviews and assessments which are outlined below.

Academic

Complete the Head’s 1 hour Essay paper and take an academic interview with a senior member of the academic team. International candidates will be interviewed remotely.

Art

Candidates will bring their portfolio of work to the assessment day and meet with the Head of Art to discuss their work. International applicants should provide a digital portfolio and will be interviewed remotely.

Berry

On the assessment day candidates will complete a 1 hour Berry Paper based around ‘Original Thinking’. They will also take an interview with a senior member of the academic team. Following the assessment day, candidates may be required to undertake an additional remote interview later in November. International candidates will be interviewed remotely.

Chess

Candidates will be asked to play a game live using tournament rules and a Chess clock as well as take an interview with the Deputy Head (Academic). A Chess CV will also be required.

Classics

On the assessment day candidates will complete a 1-hour Classics Paper. They will also have an interview with the Head of Classics. International candidates will be interviewed remotely.  

Design

Candidates need to submit a digital design portfolio by 28 October. Ahead of the assessment day, information will be sent out to candidates to help them prepare for the timed design task. On the assessment day, the Head of Design will run the design task and interview candidates to discuss the contents of their portfolio. Candidates must attend the assessment day in person

Drama

Candidates should bring a portfolio to the assessment day to discuss the contents during an interview with the Head of Drama. There will be a group workshop, and candidates will be required to perform two contrasting monologues, one classical and one modern.

International candidates may submit a digital Drama portfolio by 28 October; however, they must attend the assessment day in person.

Music

Candidates should arrange a pre-consultation lesson ahead of the assessment day. Please contact Jane Horwood at jhorwood@stowe.co.uk. On the assessment day, candidates will be required to perform two contrasting pieces on their principal instrument and one piece on their second study. There will also be an interview with the Head of Music.

Candidates not residing in the UK – ahead of the assessment day should provide a video recording, no more than 5 minutes on each instrument which will be assessed by the Head of Music. As close to the assessment day as possible, candidates will be interviewed remotely. 

Roxburgh

Roxburgh with Art - Candidates will bring their portfolio of work to the assessment day and meet with the Head of Art to discuss their work. Candidates not residing in the UK will be interviewed remotely.
