Since 2002 Peter Ackroyd has been Vicar of St Mary the Virgin, Wootton, a large village on the outskirts of Bedford, in the Diocese of St Albans. He is married to JoJo, with three children. Having graduated from Cambridge with a degree in History in 1982, Peter enjoyed a career in international banking with Barclays in Sheffield, London and Botswana, before taking an MBA at INSEAD in 1987. He subsequently worked as an investment manager in development capital with Barclays and the Prudential, before training for ordination at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. While serving a curacy in Carlisle and subsequently working for a ministry support charity, he studied part-time for a PhD in Ecclesiastical History through the University of Edinburgh. He is a Canon of St Albans and has served as a trustee of several charities and as a governor of maintained schools, as well as on the Church of England’s General Synod.
