Life before Stowe
My father was a pilot in the RAF so my early life was spent moving every 2+ years to a new posting both in the UK and Singapore finally settling in Cornwall.
I qualified as a nurse in 1988 after training at Treliske Hospital but after a year I moved to Australia where I lived and worked on the Gold Coast, returning to Cornwall in 1992.
1994-1997 were spent travelling around the world predominately in Central/South America and Asia where I met my partner in India and after three years of doing not doing anything useful but having a great time, we decided that we had better settle down. We now have two children, a mortgage, a National Trust membership and obligatory Labrador.
My nursing career consists of 28 years working in Accident and Emergency firstly as a staff nurse and then as a Sister before coming to Stowe in November 2015.I do still work regularly in A& E doing cover shifts.
What I enjoy about nursing
I have worked predominantly in Emergency care and enjoy the fact that no two days are the same. I enjoy the excitement and challenges of an ever-changing environment and meeting different people from all walks of life and hopefully helping some people along the way.
What I enjoy about Stowe
At Stowe the work can be challenging with a wide age range and the various illnesses and issues associated with teenage boys and girls. I enjoy the interaction with the students who are about the same age as my own children and the beautiful surrounding are a definite bonus (it would be hard to stay in a bad mood in the morning with my commute).
Obviously travel has been a large and important part of my life and I love going to new places and revisiting old haunts. Whilst at home we have a small amount of land so I spend quite a bit of time growing fruit and veg, walking the dog and chasing chickens… Sometimes it’s nice to come to work for a rest!
