Mrs Vanessa Stanley
Department: Governing Body
Qualifications: M.Ed, B.Eng(Hons) ACGI, PGCE, NPQH
After completing secondary school and graduating from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Vanessa chose to complete a PGCE in Secondary Physics and Science teaching at Kings College, University of London. She started her teaching career in a small secondary school in Wiltshire serving the local village communities and the army bases of Larkhill and Bulford, where she soon became Coordinator of Science. In 1993, Vanessa moved to Head of Science at Magdalen College School, Brackley where as well as leading a team of 18, she worked with the Teacher Training Agency developing the standards for Heads of Department and was on the steering committee for Science teacher training at Oxford University. In 2000 she moved to her first Deputy Headship in Milton Keynes then in 2005 moved to set up The Hazeley Academy and led the curriculum development in this new and growing school for nearly 8 years. After a Deputy Headship in an 1800 strong 14-18 school in Lutterworth, the desire to use her engineering knowledge while working with the Principal to set up another new school was too strong and she was delighted to be appointed Deputy Principal at Silverstone UTC. She continues to lead curriculum and is thoroughly enjoying teaching engineering and physics to students who already have an interest in engineering. Vanessa believes that working in partnership with Stowe will enable both establishments to develop their curriculum and extracurricular offer and is delighted to be part of the Stowe Governing Body Education and Pastoral Committees.
