Life before Stowe
After leaving Stowe myself, I was in several bands doing 'the circuit' which included lots of songwriting. I was also a full time Pianist working in many different London venues, including residencies at 'Quaglino's' and 'The Landmark' amongst others, where I cut my teeth in Jazz. Later I started working as a Piano teacher in private practice, and composing for a Production Music Library.
What do you enjoy most about your subject?
I love demystifying some of the more technical sounding aspects of music, that some students find intimidating at first.
What do you enjoy most about Stowe?
As an Old Stoic, I was aware of the beauty of the place long before I started to work here, but it still never fails to impress me and makes arriving at work more of a jot than it would be in many schools. Primarily though, I love the vibrancy of the school environment - and the Stoics are a great bunch.
What is your favourite Lesson?
That probably changes over time, but right now I'm really enjoying teaching my exam years (Fifth and Lower Sixth). Focusing in on detail and embedding it in the Stoic's minds is challenging but interesting work.
What do others say about you?
I can't be sure, but hopefully they think I can carry a tune at the Piano!
I still compose and when I get the time, I contribute to the production music library Synctracks.
My wife Angela and our two sons, William and Freddie. Keeping up with the boys' ever increasing social life keeps us very busy. And music, of course! After living in London for many years, the entire family are loving being back in the countryside!
