Life before Stowe
I worked in medical research in immunology and virology. The last job I had before having children was doing the buying for microbiology undergraduate labs. While my children were small I ran two toddler groups and created a second hand toy business.
What do you enjoy most about your subject?
Biology is about life; if you are tired of biology you are weary of life. New discoveries are being made all the time, so the subject is truly organic and constantly changing.
What do you enjoy most about Stowe?
Beyond the magical and unspoilt surroundings, most pupils are thoroughly charming and I love the fact that I get to see them enjoy and thrive in areas outside my own subject - sport, music, drama and many others: I get to see and appreciate other sides to their character.
What is your favourite Lesson?
Anything messy really: pond water is terrific as there are so many microscopic animals in there, it's like being absorbed into another dimension. Dissection is stimulating too - and popular with the Stoics!
What do others say about you?
Pupils know I am ultimately on their side even when I have to be strict. I do not take the teenage tendency to rebel personally at all.
I particularly enjoy Sports Day, House Cross Country and the plethora of Music concerts and activities at Stowe.
I love the countryside and am a secret twitcher. The African bush is heaven with all those bugs, birds and beasts. I love the soul of Africa which feel so tangible: I will go back to die there, like an old elephant!
