Ms Ilona Harding

I trained as a Nursery Nurse in 1985 and have always worked with children and young people in various settings alongside raising my own four boys. Before joining Stowe in September 2015 I worked as a Life Story worker for children in care.  Working with children aged between 3 and 18 years of age, I helped them trace their family history and compile the information into a book that would help them to have a better understanding of their identity and their circumstances.

I have absolutely loved being a part of West thus far and have been made to feel very welcome. We are a fairly new House amongst some very old, established Houses and so it has been fun to be at the forefront of our own traditions and customs that will hopefully carry on for years to come. I feel very proud to be a part of West as it is a very unique House in many ways and I look forward to seeing it grow and become a vibrant and valued part of the Stowe community.

The atmosphere amongst staff and pupils here at Stowe, as well as the beautiful surroundings makes work a very enjoyable experience. However it is the Stoics that make my work so fulfilling as you see them change into young adults, making choices and learning new life skills before leaving Stowe to make their mark on the wider world.

During the holidays and any spare time that I have I enjoy spending time with the family and catching up with each other’s news as well as the usual trips to the theatre, cinema etc. I also love walking the dog and reading. My other passion has been to work in the voluntary sector and I am hoping now that I have such a long summer break I can once again donate some time to a worthwhile cause.
