Life before Stowe

I worked in journalism and PR before starting my teaching career at Whitgift School. Following this, I relocated to Monmouth and worked as Head of English at Monmouth Boys’ School, then Sixth Form Day Houseparent. Most recently, I was Director of Sixth Form (Assistant Head) of Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for four years.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

I am passionate about sparking curiosity and a lasting love of literature in my pupils. One of the most rewarding parts of teaching is witnessing those moments when ideas click into place and pupils realise the progress they have made.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

The Stoics and Staff make Stowe a very welcoming and supportive place. It is a vibrant, busy and beautiful place to live.

What is your favourite Lesson?

A Level lessons allow you to explore literature in so much more detail. I love teaching Shakespeare, particularly Othello and The Merchant of Venice - both plays remain powerful, thought-provoking and relevant for pupils today.

What do others say about you?

I would hope colleagues and pupils would describe me as dedicated, kind and fair.

Other hats

Together with my husband, Alex, I am a Houseparent in Temple, where we have the privilege of looking after a fantastic group of boys. I am also Head of Fifth Form. Outside of work, Alex and I have two young children who are enjoy all that Stowe has to offer.

Passions

Spending time with my family, sunny holidays, the Welsh countryside (the hills!), the calm of a library, and sharing good food and company!
