Life before Stowe

I graduated from Warwick University in 1985 with a BA (Hons) in Film and Literature. I was one of the first people in the country to get a Film related degree. Subsequently I achieved an MA in Victorian Thought and Religion from Canterbury Christchurch University College in the 1990s and a Doctorate in Education from King's College, London in 2006. I have been teaching since the last days of O Level, working primarily in a girls' Grammar School in Kent, the adult education service and, a long, long time ago, prisons!

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

What's not to like? I think everyone should find something they love and then work out how to get paid for it.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

The library and the swans.

What is your favourite lesson?

Probably the one I just taught.

What do others say about you?

A former student was once overheard saying to her friend "I'm not sure if Dr Webber has ever taught us anything....but he certainly makes you think."

Other hats

At Stowe you'll find me co-running the Film Society; working with the Lower school Academics; judging the debating competitions and helping with the volunteers and GCSE re-sits. Search hard and you might discover my novel The Loners; search even harder to discover those two  lost "masterpieces" by The Hyacinth Girls - Happy Now? and Old Men Ought to Be Explorers.

Passions

The cinema, reading, comics, esoteric pop, my lovely grandchildren, London and teaching.
