Life before Stowe
Before Stowe I lived in Yorkshire and taught in two great comprehensive schools. I was lucky to have two fantastic Heads of Department who taught me a great deal about the profession. I also worked as a boarding assistant at a school in York.
What do you enjoy most about your subject?
History allows us to better comprehend the world around us. Without an understanding of how the world we live in came to be as it is we cannot properly appreciate it.
What do you enjoy most about Stowe?
I have been struck by just how welcoming, polite and enthusiastic the Stoics have been. That, and the beautiful surroundings, combine to make Stowe a truly unique place to live and work.
What is your favourite lesson?
I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching aspects of the British Empire. Debates surrounding the morality of Empire always elicit interesting points of view!
What do others say about you?
I like to think students recognize my passion for the subject, my willingness to try to make learning fun and the fact that I don't take myself too seriously.
Other hats
I help with the football activities which provide me with a wonderful opportunity to continue playing into my thirties! I am also excited about helping with the Duke of Edinburgh award.
Passions
I am a passionate Arsenal fan. When I need a break from the mental turmoil of supporting such an utterly ridiculous football team I can usually be found reading, walking my dog or attempting to garden!
