Life before Stowe
Since qualifying as a RGN 30 years ago (wow that makes me feel old!) I have worked in a variety of different settings including Isolation Unit, High Dependency, Theatres (very briefly as I get bored standing in one place), Practice Nursing, District Nursing and School Nursing.
I had a career break whilst I brought up my three boys – Tom, Ben and Jack – but during this time pursued my passion for fitness and qualified as a Fitness Instructor in 1992. I have taught many classes ranging from Aerobics, Legs, Bums & Tums, Aqua, Circuits and Weighted Body Programmes as well as Pilates and Body Balance.
Since returning to Nursing in 2002 I have completed a Family Planning Course and graduated from De Montfort University with a BSc (Hons) Public and Community Health. For the last six years I have worked at Stowe in the Medical Centre where I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Third Formers mature into young adults.
My strong interests are with Travel Immunisations and Sexual Health but the varied workload at the Medical Centre keeps my interest in many areas of nursing. In 2015 I took on the role of Senior Nurse Manager in the Medical Centre .
What do you like about Nursing?
Ever since I was a little girl all I ever wanted was to be a Nurse. I have always liked to try and ‘make things better’ and ‘look at wounds’. Since working as a School Nurse I have really enjoyed meeting young people, trying to find out what makes them tick, and being able to offer support and help whenever I can. This has been a very rewarding aspect of my job.
What do you like about Stowe?
I moved to this area 19 years ago and often came for walks in the National Trust grounds admiring the impressive School and grounds. I feel so lucky to now be working at Stowe. I love the old, high ceilings of the buildings, the fantastic grounds, the golf course... everything!
Eating, drinking (nice wine), running, keeping fit, family days and holidays, enjoying different stages of my boys growing up and having time out with my husband.
