LIfe before Stowe
I am originally from Sussex and moved to study Contemporary Textile Practices at Norwich University of the Arts. After my degree I co-founded an artist led studios and gallery space based in Norwich. These featured print rooms and a workshop programme. I then decided to move on to study for my PGCE at Brighton University. Since then I have taught at several secondary independent, state schools and FE/HE colleges. Before joining the Art department at Stowe I taught Art Printmaking at Winchester College, and prior to that I taught Art at an International School in Padua, Italy.
What do you enjoy most about your subject?
I enjoy the fact that Art gives learners the opportunity to express themselves, creatively through different materials. This is a link that I am interested in researching further as part of my MA in Education, on The Artist Teacher Scheme at Oxford Brookes.
What do you enjoy most about Stowe?
As an Art teacher I am enjoying the fantastic grounds at Stowe, and I am finding the landscape very inspiring in my teaching. I have been able to take some of my classes outside to enable my students to draw within this beautiful setting.
What is your favourite lesson?
My favourite lesson to teach is Sixth Form Art as students have chosen to study the subject, and are passionate about what they are creating. In Sixth Form students get to work on personal projects and develop their own line of enquiry within their Art work. This leads to exciting and surprising results. I also enjoy helping students who have chosen to study Art at university prepare their Art portfolios ready for interview.
What do others say about you?
I think students would describe me as enthusiastic and passionate about Art, Music and anything creative!
Alongside my teaching I am Assistant Housemistress at Lyttelton, and Tutor to 3rdForm students. I am also involved in CCF, and student Yoga classes. In the future I hope to be involved in Climbing activities, and the Stowe Fashion Show.
I am passionate about Climbing and belong to Southampton Climbing Club a group that organises outdoor climbing trips in the UK and abroad. In the school holidays I enjoy exploring various places in my self-built campervan, which doubles up as my Art studio. I also love Cycling, Music, Fashion and of course Art. In my spare time I play the guitar, attend lindy hop dance classes and enjoy dressmaking.
