Life before Stowe
I grew up in Perranporth, Cornwall so I am a long way from home! Having graduated in 2005, I worked in Sports Development for two years, before moving into teaching. I have done ‘the rounds’ in the local area having taught at both the Royal Latin School and Akeley Wood School.
What do you enjoy most about your subject?
I love how current the subject is. We are always seeing new pieces in the media related to the content I teach, be it physiological, psychological or sociological. I also really enjoy that pupils are passionate about sport, and therefore want to know more to explain situations they experience whilst playing sport. Lastly, teaching pupils skills and knowledge about exercise, health and diet that they can use throughout their lives.
What do you enjoy most about Stowe?
The setting is amazing, and I hope I never take it for granted. Having such great facilities accessible for both my teaching and my own training is fantastic. There are not many workplaces with these grounds in the world! The atmosphere in the Common Room is also really friendly and since starting in 2015 I have been warmly welcomed.
What is your favourite Lesson?
I love any lesson where the pupils can apply their theory knowledge to a practical sporting scenario. I like to use physical exercise to see the body’s response and the biological processes that we have discussed in the classroom.
What do others say about you?
I think the pupils would say I am ‘firm but fair’ and go the extra mile for pupils. Hopefully my friends would say I was fun, loyal and trustworthy.
U15A Rugby Coach, Head of Football and I take the lead on GCSE Sports Science and the Third Form Physical Education programme.
Unfortunately my own Rugby playing has come to an end, and I have made the move into endurance events. I ran the London Marathon in 2015 and hope to complete triathlons in the not too distant future!
I am passionate about cooking, in particular Mediterranean (having worked as a private chef in France for a summer back in 2007) and Asian cuisines. I am a massive fan of Rick Stein!
I also love to travel, although this hobby has been somewhat curtailed now I have two young daughters.
