Life before Stowe
I worked for the Woolwich Building Society for 16 years becoming a District Manager. Having finished my playing days with Northampton Saints I then moved to the coaching staff starting with the U19s when the likes of Matt Dawson, Ben Cohen and Steve Thompson first came to prominence. I then coached the 2nd team under the guidance of Ian McGeechan before coaching the England U18 sides for seven years.
What do you enjoy most about your subject?
The camaraderie that exists between the guys who play what is a very physical sport and yet can have a laugh and share each others company afterwards. The values that Stoics learn from being involved in a team sport undoubtedly provide them with life skills for the future.
What do you enjoy most about Stowe?
The buildings and beauty are second to none but they are soulless when empty. It is the 770 girls and boys that make this place such a vibrant place to work.
What is your favourite Lesson?
The first session with the new Third Form boys - it allows us to appreciate and gauge what potential we have for the next five years.
What do others say about you?
They call me the “hat snatcher”: I have a pet hate of hats being worn in the dining room - occasionally Stoics forget and pay the price! “The Strongest Link”: it still hurts some of my teaching colleagues that a Northerner got lucky with some questions and won the staff Weakest Link competition a couple of years ago.
