We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced Organist within the Music Department at Stowe School as we recruit for a Chapel Organist for September 2024. This is an excellent opportunity for a professional individual who has a music degree or similar professional qualification or is an Organist of ARCO standard or equivalent experience. 

The role of Chapel Organist is to accompany school services and support and attend choir rehearsals. You will play the organ at each School service and assist the Director of Choral Music in Choir rehearsals. Additionally, you will participate in the training of music theory to singers, scholars and exam classes. You will be expected to take part in choir tours, broadcasts, concerts, recordings as part of the wider school music offering as and when they occur. 

You will share in the administrative workload of the Music Department so good organisational and communication skills are essential as is an ability to work to deadlines within a fast paced and thriving music department. You will be passionate and enthusiastic about Music and enjoy sharing your knowledge with others in the School environment.

An Organist of ARCO standard or equivalent experience.

A music degree or similar professional qualification/experience.

PGCE

Specialist Skills & Experience 

Experience of accompanying choirs and capacity congregations to a high standard on a large instrument, in a large space.

An understanding of current issues and best practice relating to Safeguarding, and a willingness to undertake training as necessary.

Knowledge of the standard Anglican repertoire.

Some experience of choral conducting.

Some experience of working in a Parish Church environment or similar.

A clean driving licence.

Flexibility towards the development of a wide range of musical and liturgical styles.

Personal Qualities 

A communicator who can inspire singers, and who can also relate well to non-musicians.

An individual who displays an enterprising and imaginative approach to personal musical development.

Is able to work calmly, particularly when performing at high profile, pressured occasions.

A maturity of character and a good sense of humour

Good organisational skills.
