Sport

Sport is a cherished and traditional strength here at Winchester House, and with a comprehensive and exceptionally competitive fixture list in all major and minor games, the record of success is impressive.

Our all-inclusive approach gives every child an opportunity to represent the school and experience all the additional benefits that come with it.

The main sports for the boys are rugby, hockey and cricket and the girls play netball, hockey and rounders. The children are coached by specialist staff across all the age groups and leave Winchester House with a strong grounding in technique and sportsmanship. We encourage the children to view sport as a ‘skill and passion for life’ with a strong emphasis on enjoyment.

Our nine acres of expertly maintained playing fields, full size, state of the art AstroTurf and superbly equipped sports hall allow us to host a large number of home fixtures.

Away from traditional Games sessions, pupils can also choose to take part in a wealth of extra sporting activities during the evening activity sessions, including equestrian, tennis, football, golf, gym club, karate, rifle shooting, squash, skiing, table tennis, American football, hockey and swimming squad.

Physical Education

Physical Education gives children opportunities to learn and understand new sports and skills away from the traditional games programme. Our specialist team teach the children from Nursery through to Year 8, and PE lessons include swimming, indoor hockey, gymnastics, short tennis, badminton, ball handling skills, basketball and athletics. We also teach the children the importance of warm-ups and warm downs using SAQ (speed, agility and quickness) and ABCs (Agility, Balance and Coordination) exercises.

At the end of every term the children complete a personal profile which gives them an opportunity to build a portfolio of teams represented, sports played and skills learnt from Year 4-8 which will stay with them for the duration of their time at Winchester House and into senior school.
