Campaign for Stowe Annual Report

The Campaign report 2009 (incorporated into the Governors' Report) provides news on recent developments at Stowe, the projects that have been funded, and a list of all those who have so generously helped to realise these ambitions.

You can view or download a digital copy by clicking here, but should you wish to have a printed copy of the report then please do contact Colin Dudgeon, Director of the Campaign for Stowe, by e-mail on cdudgeon@stowe.co.uk, or by telephone on 01280 818249.

The President's Appeal

Chris Atkinson is now in his final year as President of the Old Stoic Society. He is an enthusiastic supporter of the School and its development plans, and a considerable supporter of the Campaign's efforts. To mark his final year as President, Chris has set himself the target of raising £300,000 towards the Campaign's goals, from those who have known him either from his days as a Stoic (he left Chatham in '59), a teacher, sports coach, Housemaster of Walpole, or Secretary of the Old Stoic Society. He would be delighted to hear from any member of the Stowe community who would like to support the President's Appeal, and promises warm acknowledgement! The Stowe Harvard Dinner - Friday 18 June 2010

The Stowe Harvard Dinner is organised in conjunction with American Friends of Stowe and is an important celebration of the close relationship that exists between Stowe and Harvard, and in particular of the Stowe Harvard Fellowship. Through the Fellowship, every year a postgraduate of Harvard is selected to come to Stowe as a teacher, coach and mentor. This year's Fellow is Jarret Zafran.

Our guests and supporters are offered an exciting and varied programme of events as part of the occasion, commencing with a private tour of the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology in Oxford.

Roxburgh Society Lunch - Tuesday 6 July 2010

The Roxburgh Society (for those who have left, or intend to leave, a bequest to Stowe in their will) is pleased to announce the date for its next Annual Lunch, at Stowe on Tuesday 7 July. We look forward to welcoming members of the Society and their guests.

Stowe House - the next phase of the restoration

We are delighted to report that the next phase of the major restoration of Stowe House is under way. It is a two year project that will be done in two sub-phases. Sub-phase 1 from July 2009 to July 2010 involves the restoration of the roofs, elevations, facades, balustrades and garden on the Eastern Pavilion and State Library side of the House. The project also includes the restoration of the State Library interior and, subject to funding, the interior of the Music Room and adjacent corridors. Sub-phase 2 from July 2010 to July 2011 will see the restoration of the Western Pavilion and State Dining Room exteriors, and subject to funding the interiors of the State Dining Room, Temple Room and adjacent corridors.

The project will significantly enhance the appearance of the South Front and secure in particular the roofs of the House for the next 75 years and beyond. We are extremely grateful to all those who have generously contributed to the project. It is a wonderfully exciting development that is being generously funded by an anonymous donor through the World Monuments Fund, and by the Robert W Wilson World Monuments Challenge Fund and a great many other individual benefactors.

The Art School

In September 2010 the completely refurbished Art School will be opened.  We are particularly indebted to Lord Sainsbury of Preston Candover KG (Grenville 45) and The Linbury Trust whose great generosity has made the project possible.  With studio space, specialist rooms and equipment and a gallery and exhibition area, the new building will transform the facilities and opportunities available to Stoic artists.

The new Athletics Track

On 20 September 2009, we were thrilled to welcome Sebastian Coe, KBE – double Olympic gold-medallist and Chairman of the London Organising Committee for London 2012 - to formally open the new Athletics Track. The track is named the ‘David Donaldson Athletics Track’, in honour of the Master in Charge of Athletics during the sport’s heyday at Stowe in the 1960s.

This new facility was made possible entirely through the donations of Old Stoics and parents. We are enormously grateful to them all, and we were delighted that many of our donors, parents and Old Stoics were able to join us for the occasion which coincided with Sports Day for 2009.

American Friends of Stowe

AFS was founded in 2002 in order to provide a nexus for those living in the United States to re-connect with Stowe and to provide financial support for the Campaign for Stowe. AFS has more than 300 members comprised of Old Stoics, families, former staff, and friends. (See above) American Friends is an active organisation hosting social events and raising funds to support for the Campaign. AFS is an incorporated nonprofit organization with 501(c)(3) status. Financial contributions from the US are tax-deductible. In addition to traditional donations, gifts of appreciated shares, legacy grants, and bequests are also accepted and encouraged.
