A very warm welcome to the Stowe Parents’ Association Summer term calendar 2013.

It is through this calendar of events that the Stowe Parents’ Association continues in its aim to create opportunities for parents to develop strong relationships with each other and with the School and therefore all parents are warmly encouraged to participate. 

Saturday 4 May: Tour of the Mansion and Journeybreaker

10:30am Coffee in the Marble Hall

10:45am Tour of the Mansion
 

The Tour will be led by members of the Stowe House Preservation Trust (SHPT) who regularly guide members of the public around the House. The tour is free but voluntary donations to the SHPT are always appreciated. Please email SPA@stowe.co.uk by Monday 29 April to reserve your place on the tour.

12.00pm Journeybreaker in the Marble Hall:

When you collect your children, enjoy some light refreshments and the company of other parernts. 

Tuesday 7 May: Royal Opera House – Lunch and Backstage Tour

This event is sold out. However in case of late availability due to a late cancellation please feel free to register your interest by emailing SPA@stowe.co.uk

Saturday 11 May: Headmaster’s Tour of Stowe Landscape Gardens

The Headmaster will lead an exploration of the Stowe Landscape Gardens. This is a great opportunity to increase your knowledge of our wonderful setting. The event starts with coffee at 10.45am, followed by tours and lunch aiming to conclude by 2.30pm. You may like to combine this with supporting your children as they compete for the School later in the afternoon. Home fixtures include Athletics, Cricket and Tennis.

Tickets are £15 per person and include lunch in the State Rooms. Tickets must be reserved with payment by Tuesday 7 May. Please email SPA@stowe.co.uk to reserve your place.

Saturday 22 June:  Stowe Olympians’ Sports Lunch

We are excited to present Olympians Brendan Reilly and James Fair, who will be speaking about their sporting experiences, including competing in four Olympic Games. Both James and Brendan are members of the Stowe teaching staff.

Brendan Reilly represented GB in 1992 (Barcelona) and then the Republic of Ireland in 2000 Sydney) as well as competing in countless World and European games over a ten year period. He won medals and broke records at all levels from National Competitions to World Cups. His personal  best is 2m 32cm which, put in perspective, would have won Silver Medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games...not that he’s bitter! For those whose memories stretch a little further, Brendan continues to work with David Hemery who won gold in Mexico in 1968.

James Fair, having travelled as a reserve to Beijing in 2008, represented GB in London in 2012. He was World Hockey Goalkeeper of the Year in 2011 when he was selected for the world team. He has won over 120 caps for GB and England. In addition to the Olympics, James has played in every major tournament since 2008, including Commonwealth Games, European and World Cups.

Brendan and James will be speaking over lunch with plenty of opportunity for Q&A. The event will start with drinks in the Marble Hall at 11.45am followed by lunch in the Music Room. We aim to conclude by 2.30pm.

This event has limited capacity and tickets cost £10 per person therefore please email us at SPA@stowe.co.uk as soon as possible to reserve places. 

SPA Committee meetings

SPA aims to create opportunities for parents to develop strong relationships with each other and with the School. All parents are warmly encouraged to participate and to attend any or all meetings. The main purpose of the meetings is to plan future events and they usually coincide with Exeats and other pick up times. Please let us know if you can attend by emailing SPA@stowe.co.uk.

The next meeting is on Saturday 4 May at 10.30am.

Meetings are held in the Blue Room. The Blue Room is in the Mansion, just beyond the Library. Please ask at Reception for directions.

The SPA Committee depends on parents’ desire and willingness to get the most from their time at Stowe. The School offers a great deal of support but ultimately SPA is for us, the parents, so please do speak to us or email us. We are always delighted to meet new people and include as many as possible in creating opportunities for parents to get together in interesting circumstances.
