The girls got off to a bit of a scrappy start in this match, but eventually got into the swing of it and played some of their best hockey this season. Lucy Oswald had a brilliant match at both ends of the pitch, setting up goals and keeping the ball out of our D. Her tireless effort and energy rubbed off on the others and earned her Man of the Match. Other players to be commended were Tash Edwards (right wing) who set up one of our goals and produced many other opportunities with her pace and stamina, and Lily Holland-Bosworth who saved a goal on the line with her reverse stick! Well done girls.

JAGS L 1-2, Wellington College L 0-2, King Edward's VI L 0-1
Goal Scorer: Kelly-Jo Cecile-Pritchard
Player of the Match: Polly Stuart-Mills
The Stowe U14 team, Buckinghamshire County Champions, travelled to Wellington College to play in the Regional Heats of the National Tournament. We are strong side who have had considerable success so were confident we could do well. However, having had a spell without a competitive fixture, coupled with genuine fatigue due to the stage of the term, things just did not connect on this occasion. We felt were trying but instead it seemed we were going through the motions unable to react to the intensity of the play or respond to the strengths of the opposition. Basically, we had a bad day! Still, we will learn from the experience and will not let it affect our esteem. We look forward to our final game of the season on Saturday against Oundle at home.

Girls 1st XI vs. Oundle (H) Won 2 - 1
In their final game of the season, the 1st XI wanted to improve on their excellent performance last week. Against a skilful Oundle side, Stowe pressed hard in the initial exchanges and put the Oundle defence under pressure. This was a frantic game, with both sides playing at an extremely high tempo and both keepers being forced into good saves. Stowe scored the first goal, after a strong run down the wing by Lucy Horan, captain, Charlie Lechmere beat two players and then slammed the ball into the goal. Oundle bounced back with a very good move started in their midfield and finished with a well taken goal on the far post.
After half time, Stowe's superior pace in midfield and attack started to tell and Lechmere was at the heart of every play. This was by far Charlie's most impressive performance of the season and certainly a sign of how much she has developed as a player and a captain this year. She was unlucky not to score on number of occasions in the second half, but she was instrumental in Stowe's fortuitous second goal. A series of feet in the Oundle 'D', led to the ball falling to Alice Hughes, who flicked home the winner. At the final whistle the girls were both exhausted and elated and thoroughly deserved to finish this season on such a high.
Georgia Stone was once again outstanding in goal, with other strong performances from Becca Dale & Laura Welford.
MOM: Lechmere
GS: Lechmere & Hughes
Girls 2nd XI vs. Oundle U16A XI (H) Lost 0 – 7
For the Captain and head girl this was their last match of the season. Against a Nationally high ranking team, Stowe brought a fight from the first whistle. Again we proved a strong defensive team, making some strong tackles and giving a good battle on 50/50 balls. Heloise Kleinwort, holding the core of the team with Honor Turner, fought right to the very last second, determined to not let anything pass their sticks. We had some great turn over play utilising Honor's big hit. But we couldn't quite get the ball moving wide enough and up to the forwards to score. We were caught on the back foot a few times, allowing Oundle to penetrate our flat press and score goals. None the less, a good 2nd team performance girls. Well done this season.
MOM- Honor Turner
Mentions- Ellie Melville and Jess Noakes (C) always turning up to a practice with a smile, and a huge support to the 2nd team over the past 3 seasons.

Girls U15B XI vs. Oundle U15Es (H) Won 8 – 0
Even though it was quite disappointing not to face a team that looked like they had played hockey before, it was a nice way to round off the season with a convincing win. The goals started early on in the match with some lovely play up the right wing by Tash Edwards. We scored 2 goals from some well prepared short corners, one of which was a brilliant straight strike from captain Claudia Wace. The score line could have been higher, had their keeper not made some great saves from the barrage of shots that flew her way. There were some scrappy parts of the game, where we dropped to the opposition's level, however throughout most of the game we held our composure and played some great passing hockey. Lucy Oswald was sending some brilliant transfer balls across the pitch and Flora Marriott worked tirelessly up at the front to score 3 of the goals. The girls really showed off how far they have come this term, and excelled with excellent team work. Well done girls!
Goals: Flora Marriott 3, Claudia Wace 2, Tash Edwards 2 and Lucy Oswald 1.

Girls U14A XI vs. Oundle (H) Won 5 – 0
We were all looking forward to our last match of the season having enjoyed such a successful term. The U14A have developed into a strong, cohesive team and were eager to bounce back after a disappointing performance at the Regionals on Thursday. The atmosphere in the dug out was of excitement with a genuine desire to win in front of the home crowd! Everything came together today and the girls made a fantastic start to the match with Caprice (captain), at CM, scoring her first goal of the season in style within 3 minutes of the whistle. The intensity remained high and the girls were passing the ball with confidence and commitment leading to the second goal after 8 minutes from Issy on the right. After 15 minutes we were awarded a short corner which the girls executed perfectly leading to goal from a direct strike from Polly. In the final phase of the first half Oundle made an attack which was closed down by Millie Bromley-Davenport who passed to Jemima Grant just inside our 25. She then made a solo run beating player after player finishing with a great shot and a goal to take us 4-0 up at half time. Everyone was making a valuable contribution and we were keen to get the next 25 minutes under way. Oundle came back hard in the first 10 minutes stepping up to meet the ball and putting more pressure on our defence. However, Daisy Price, our GK did not touch the ball for the entire game as we were able to close them down. The final goal came from an inspired pass from Philippa Stacey to Jemima at stop D who finished with form. Kelly-Jo Cecile Pritchard had a great chance in the final moments but it just skimmed past the post. This was an impressive display of hockey and we were delighted to win. It has been an absolute pleasure to coach this group of girls this term - well done to you all!

Girls U14B XI vs. Oundle (H) WON 11 - 0
We took to the field determined to enjoy our last game of the season and play some outstanding hockey. Unfortunately we were not tested as Oundle sent a very weak team to play us obviously underestimating our ability. They crowded their goal in an attempt to keep down the score but we managed to get the ball through the melee on 11 occasions! Playing rolling substitutions meant that everyone had a chance to score but it was Tilly Smith who usually plays in defence that put the first one away. She then went on to score 3 more; guess what position she will be playing next year! Our victory was never in question it was just a matter of how many we would win by. Oundle were magnanimous in defeat and the game was played in a good spirit. Very well done to all the girls who have played in the team this season; my first term at Stowe has been very memorable.

1st XV vs. Warwick (A) Won 14 - 24
Another stepping stone along the way. Beating Warwick on their own turf is another milestone in the Stowe's development. Both sides were missing a couple of first choice players and with late withdrawals Stowe were in trepidation of their opponents before Kick off. An interception try by Roberts after 35 seconds settled the nerves and a further try by Phipps gave Stowe a 14-11 advantage at the break. With the wind behind them Stowe were able to capitalise on this advantage and a well struck penalty by Olley and a further converted try by Raymond sealed a memorable afternoon. It was an afternoon of heroics but Courtney Raymond at 8 and Ollie Plunkett at scrum half shared the M o M award.
2nd XV vs. Warwick (A)Lost 33-10
This is the last game in the blue and gold for the upper 6th, let's hope they leave an impression to be proud of! Retiring Stoics: Levitt-Scrivener, Prideaux, Nesbitt, Walters, Sutton, Barran, Rimell. Good luck gents.
Referee is late! Warwick master kindly steps up to referee.
Try to Warwick after a driving maul. Stowe still finding their feet. 7-0.
Break from Jamie Wace sets up some Stowe pressure.
Set piece errors plaguing the Stowe attack.
Another try to Warwick, against run of play. Missed tackle simple as that.
14-0
Try on the blindside, Stowe lineout costing us dearly. 19-0 Stowe on the board with a Sergeant penalty, 19-3.
Half time
Great break from Masziak, but it comes to nothing and Warwick clear.
Warwick score and go up 26-3.
Stowe inches from a try as the pass just goes down.
Stowe still attacking but the handling is not quite accurate enough.
What a try! Sergeant slices through and does the fullback 1 on 1. Converts. 26-10.
Missed tackle, Warwick score 33-10.
Strong finish by Stowe, Paine yellow carded for a high tackle. Stowe keep Warwick out to finish, solid defence with 14 men.
Shame not to win but a great season, well done boys.
Man of the match: Jamie Wace
4th XV vs. Warwick (A) Won 5 - 22
The 4th XV travelled to Warwick on Saturday on what for many was a very emotional day as it was the U6th Formers last competitive XV-a-side rugby match for Stowe. Unfortunately the rugby did not live up to the highs of recent performances. It was no surprise that Warwick took the lead mid-way through the first half after several sloppy tackles left Pettifer exposed at full-back. Stowe levelled the score after Cockbill tapped quickly from 5 metres and fed Pettifer who crashed over. Stowe went in at the break 10-5 up thanks to Ed Brown finished off a slick handling move which left Warwick out-numbered on the flank.
The second half was a stop – start affair with neither side able to stamp their authority on the game and what made matters worse, the referee was beginning to get agitated with both sets of players.
The third try was a scrappy affair with Curran touching down after Warwick failed to deal with a charge down in their in goal area; Pettifer converted beautifully. Stowe saved the best ‘til last with Carrelet scoring in the corner following an excellent passing sequence involving most of the team. Rothschild and Benyon should be congratulated for playing for Warwick when they were a player down with Benyon putting in his best performance of the season. He was awarded a Warwick shirt after the game by the opposition.
In the end it was a comfortable 22-5 victory. Well done to all the players for a thoroughly enjoyable season!

Colts B XV vs. Warwick (H) Lost 7 - 51
We put up a good fight but came second to a team that is undefeated this season and from what we saw likely to remain so.
MOM: Jonny Dann
Try scorer: Lazanoff
Colts C XV vs. Warwick (H) Won 37 - 5
From the first phase of play it was clear that the Stowe Colts C team was aiming to finish the season on a high. Milne took the high ball from Warwick's kick-off, securing an instant advantage that the forwards capitalised on. However, a couple of penalties against Stowe for not rolling away after the tackle slowed the game down. Stowe's forwards gradually reassembled their tactical game-plan, and rumbled forward. Alex Fitzjohn made a special habit of picking and driving, forcing the Stowe line ever forward. After a few minutes Chadd and Matthews were getting involved and the pace of the Stowe attack increased exponentially, with the home side finding the gaps and going on to score 3 touchdowns in the first half. Stowe's forward support play was as good as it had been all season.
After a strong and steady first half, the Stowe back line players were ready to play some champagne rugby. With tremendous pace and fast hands each of the backs made their presence felt, with Nick Whitmore scoring two tries with some darting and powerful solo runs. The highlight of the game was the famous "Big Daddy" move, which saw fly-half Tom Forde send up a high kick from the middle of the pitch that was caught on the run by Jack Vestey who then powered his way 40 yards down the field before off-loading to allow newcomer Matt Harvey over the line.
With tremendous tackling and astonishing fluidity the Stowe Colts C team made the victory look effortless. Now they have beaten every C team they have encountered this term, this Colts side can reflect on an outstanding season. Well done to all who played.
MOM - Alex Fitzjohn
Tries - Fitzjohn (3), Whitmore (2), Harvey, Matthews
JCA XV vs. Warwick (A) Lost 29 - 19
A terrible day at the office for the weary looking JCA’s. Enforced changes meant Kerr started at fly half, and he began well, making a half break and linking to the outside backs who ran hard, with Aitchison scoring in the corner. Warwick bounced back as naïve defending allowed them to outflank us easily. Stowe were under severe pressure and things were not going our way as we lost our inspirational captain Aitchison and Kerr also left the field with an injured shoulder. However, we pinched a score against the pressure as Pepera scampered in from a quick tap penalty. We were being pushed around in the forwards as their well drilled and committed pack started to get the better of us. Their strong forwards sucked us in allowing their backs to go around us again. Warwick went into the break 4 points up.
We started the second half well and got our noses in front as Silk went over from a sustained piece of play deep in their half and added the conversion. However, the strain was telling as the Warwick pack started to dominate and tempers rose. Things deteriorated and frustration boiled over, with Silk adding an audible obscenity and being sin binned with 11 minutes to go. The control had gone and the match was very scrappy, with several boys losing their cool.
Warwick scored 3 tries to Stowe’s 3 tries. Stowe converted 2 Warwick didn’t convert any. Warwick did, however kick 4 penalties. Lack of discipline cost us on the day and needs to be addressed.
The final whistle was welcome in the end, to finish a disappointing performance. However, the boys recognised the difficulties on the day and are ready to re-focus for the cup match on Thursday. Pepera and Kerr are out for this. Aitchison will play.
JCB XV vs. Warwick (A) Lost 17-14
Warwick put 12 points on the board before Stowe started to consolidate their game. With ball carriers beginning to hang onto it more successfully and forwards arriving at the break down faster, and rucking better, the tide turned. Tom Young, running with an overlap, dummied and scored himself, Browne converting. Against the flow Warwick then scored their last try, making it 17-7. Stowe came back through a Roxburgh try after sustained pressure and another Browne conversion, making it 17-14. Sadly in the final ten minutes Stowe were unable to get the ball over the line, and thereby lost by a very small margin.
MOM: Roxburgh
TS: Young, Roxburgh
C: Browne x 2
JCC XV vs. Warwick (A) Won 10 – 29
I am pleased to report a very good win against Warwick at Warwick - 10-29. It took us a while to get going but our bigger pack gradually got on top and we started to score.
Tries by; Ed Hopkinson,Kai Komai x 2, Theo Shepherd-Smith and Felix Spooner. Conversions; one each for Monty Curran and Jack Keeping.
MOTM; Kai Komai.
This has been a fine end to a great term, Played 11, Won 10, Lost 1 and the team finish top of the national league table – well done lads.
