Press F5 to update

STOWE v CAREY GRAMMAR SCHOOL

STOWE win by 24 runs on Duckworth Lewis method.

Apologies for the lack of updates.  Carey finished on 138 for 8 in 26 overs.  Jake Olley took two wickets, Ali Birkby three, but the star of the show was Ben Duckett with four stumpings.  Carey tried hard, but the chase was a bit too tough.  The Stowe bowlers struggled with the ball in greasy conditions, but both sides did well to put on a game at all in difficult conditions.

6.15pm  Carey 32-1 (9 overs)

Two boundaries in over 9 throught mid off, but Will Berner had already picked up the first wicket in a testing spell.  131 from 17 (7.6 rpo) is a tough ask, unless they can put together a good partnership here.

6pm  Carey 14-0 (5 overs)

A steady start from the Carey openers, who now required 149 from 21 overs (7.1 rpo) to get the win.  The rain seems to have passed although it is still a bit wintry.

5.50pm  TARGET 163 from 26

Stowe's innings closes at 130 for 2 in 26.  With the Duckworth Lewis calculations, Carey need 163 in 26.  After two overs, they are 3 for 0 wicket.

5.30pm  The Covers are off

It is cold, very grey, but the rain has stopped.  The Mathematicians are now putting together their heads to work out what will happen with the match.

USA do England a favour in SA with a 2-2 draw with Slovenia.

4.50pm  Still raining

We are about to lose overs from the game, but Duckworth Lewis now has Stowe lined up for 197, which suggests that the previous passage of play went almost exactly according to predictions.

4.30pm  Still raining - a little brighter over head, but no let up in the rain for the moment.  The sandwiches are gone, the tea is cold, but still no cricket, I am afraid.

In the World Cup, Slovenia are 2-1 up against USA.  England will need to take 3 points tonight.

4.00pm  Stowe 132-2 (26 overs)

Well, it is still raining, and has been since 3.30pm, but the players have been out there.  All credit to them, because it is pretty unpleasant.  James MacDonald fell for an excellent 48, while Jake Olley (16*) and Ben Duckett (47*) are now pushing on towards the end of the innings.

Very unpleasant weather, though, and it is hard to see this going to the end unless it brightens up considerably.  And with that, the covers are back on, the players are off, and tea will be taken early.

I will go and check with my friends Duckworth and Lewis, and see what they say about the match situation.

3.25pm  Still raining.  Duckworth Lewis says Stowe are on for 196.  If that is the case, I hope I would have got a few of them.

3.05pm  Stowe 75-1 (17 overs)

Now the rain has forced the players from the field.  MacDonald on 34, Duckett on 20, but this is a proper shower, and the covers are on.

Time to put the kettle on.  See you back when the weather clears.

3.00pm  Stowe 60-1 (16 overs)

James MacDonald (30) and Ben Duckett (15) are beginning to put together a useful partnership, although the weather is starting to take a turn for the worse.  A drizzly rain and a cold breeze are making it feel quite chilly.  The pitch is getting a bit lower and slower, and 175 will be a good total.

2.30pm  Stowe 25-1 (8 overs)

Archie Hood is bowled for 8, during an excellent opening spell from the Carey GS left arm seamer.  James MacDonald (13) and Ben Duckett (4) are the not out batsmen.

Conditions are overcast here, and the pitch looks as though it will not be easy for batting.  160-170 is probably a par score.

Meanwhile, Germany have lost to Serbia 1-0 in another World Cup shock.  Hopefully England will not suffer a similar fate this evening.

1.45pm  Stowe have won the toss and are going to bat first in this 35 over game.  The Stowe team are:

Archie Hood, James MacDonald, Ali Birkby (captain), Ben Duckett (wk), Jake Olley, Patch Adams, Henry Woodward, Henry Rudd, Will Berner, Harry Martin, Josh Sainsbury-Bow.

1.30pm  Stowe are pleased to welcome Carey Grammar School, from Melbourne, who are currently touring England.  A development XI, captained by Ali Birkby, will play them on the North Front.  Team details to follow.  It is a 2pm start.
