Top City Businessman, Peter Cruddas, inspires Stoics
Stowe was delighted to welcome Mr Peter Cruddas, Executive Chairman of CMC Markets, to the School on Tuesday 29th June. Mr Cruddas is, by any measure, one of the most successful businessmen that the City has known. Having left Shoreditch Comprehensive at the age of 15, he went straight into business and then in 1989 formed CMC. Now a company with over 2,000 employees, Peter is famed for having turned £10,000 into £1 billion.
Peter spent an hour with Lower 6th Economics and Business Studies students. It was a tremendously lively and inspiring session: to begin with, Peter described his early life and some of the qualities and values that he has developed and adhered to over the last 40 years. He went on to discuss the current economic climate and spent a full 40 minutes answering questions from Stoics on the background to the current situation, his belief that it would be the City that would haul the country out of its current economic difficulties, and the great importance that he places on job creation and giving to charity.
The lecture provided invaluable insight for Stoics into the reality of life in the City. We hope that Mr Cruddas may return to Stowe in the future.
