Cricket v Wellingborough

STOWE v WELLINGBOROUGH

5.10pm  Stowe win by 8 wickets

Stowe 119 for 2

A ruthless performance from Stowe, particularly since lunch, sees them wrap up a comfortable win.  Ali Birkby completed another half century, finishing on 53 not out, while Ben Duckett ended on 31 not out, finishing the match with two boundaries.

Tomorrow the side will travel away to Radley, before hosting the Stowe 20/20 festival on Thursday and Friday.

4.40pm  Stowe 87 for 2

Birkby moves smoothly on to 47, and Duckett to 10 with a lofted drive for four.  Just 31 more required for victory now.

4.30pm  Stowe 73 for 2 (TEA)

Ben Sutton was the first to fall, playing across the line to be bowled for 7.  James MacDonald and Ali Birkby then added 50 before James was caught and bowled for 23.  Birkby is not out 39, and joined by Ben Duckett who has hit one boundary to date.

2.45pm  Wellingborough  117 all out

In a stunning post-lunch session, Jon Gurney (6-30) and Ben Paine (4-11) tore through the Wellingborough line up.  Wellingborough had eaten lunch at 101-4, so the final collapse saw 6 wickets tumble for 16 runs.

1.10pm  Wellingborough 84-4

Ben Paine strikes again, with one that nipped back to hit the top of off stump.  Another run out chance goes begging, though, and Stowe are struggling to raise their intensity.

1pm  Wellingborough 76-3

Ben Paine strikes, with a short ball forcing the error.  Ben Sutton completed the catch, applauded by Ben Curley and Ben Duckett.  Too many Bens.  Will Berner goes past the bat twice, but also drags one down, which is pulled for four.  A real chance here for Stowe to bowl Wellingborough out, but they need to show a bit more intent to do that.

12.50pm  Wellingborough 65-2

Two edges go for four off Will Berner, while Ben Paine beats the bat three times in an over.  There are also two good leg before shouts, and a missed run out chance, but Wellingborough hang on.

12.30pm  Wellingborough 54-2

Patel falls to a good low catch from Ben Paine (for 21), with Gurney testing him out with another short one.  A good finish to a good spell from Jon Gurney, and the umpires call for drinks.  Stowe need to show a bit more energy here if they are to take advantage of this breakthrough.

12.20pm  Wellingborough 48-1

Some short stuff from Josh Sainsbury-Bow gets punished, and Wellingborough move forward at a decent pace.

12noon  Wellingborough 24-1

A tough chance goes down at short cover off Sainsbury-Bow, and Sutton narrowly misses with a direct hit run out chance.  Then, Gurney strikes, with Collins falling for a bright 18, caught eventually by Birkby at first slip, after Olley had palmed it up at second slip.

11.40am  Wellingborough 7-0

Wellingborough win the toss and choose to bat.  A boundary in the first over, from Josh Sainsbury-Bow gets them under way.  Jon Gurney bowls the second over from the school end, and struggles with his line.

After a bit of overnight rain, we look set fair on the North Front for the 1st XI to welcome Wellingborough.  Jon Gurney will captain the side, which is unchanged from Saturday apart from the return of Josh Sainsbury-Bow for the injured Ben Curley.
