Unplugged at Stowe
The annual UNPLUGGED concerts at Stowe turned into a serious fund raiser this time around, when members of the newly formed Corinthian Society, decided to do their bit toward the recent tragic events in Haiti. Upper sixth formers, Augustus Perkins Ray, Alex Bodian and Head Girl Rosie Gawthrop helped to audition and support over 30 musicians from across all year groups at Stowe to entertain fellow Stoics, staff and parents with an eclectic range of semi acoustic rock and pop songs from such differing artistes as Snow Patrol, Regina Specktor, Damien Rice, Jeff Buckley and The Beatles. There were even some original pieces written for the occasion and the two shows, held in the Roxy Theatre on Sunday February 6th, were both sell outs.
Stoics were `encouraged` to make a donation toward the Haiti Earthquake Fund in return for listening to the music. Nick Bayley, our Director of Drama and producer of the shows, was delighted with the £1350 raised. He said `that the quality of musicianship, performances and audience reaction were superb. All those involved deserve special credit. We have some extremely talented young people here at Stowe and it was fantastic to see all the performers play with such confidence and skill`.
Judith Bundock, on behalf of Christian Aid, accepted a cheque from Rosie Gawthrop, here at Stowe on March 9th.
