Steven Thompson returns to Stowe for Lit Soc

On Friday, 5th February 2010, the Stoics were delighted to welcome Mr. Steven Thompson back to Stowe after his twenty-four years of teaching here. With reference to four poems by Louis MacNeice, Ted Hughes, William Wordsworth and Thomas Hardy, he spoke about 'Time' and its frequent companion, 'Place'. Issues of personal experience, the importance of imagination and the distinctions between past and present were considered. This was a scholarly and informative presentation which benefited all present: the techniques that Mr Thompson deployed to analyse poetry were particularly relevant to our preparation for our AS and A2 English Literature examinations.
