Girls Polo at Stowe

Stowe played their first ever girls polo match last Thursday (25th February). Unsurprisingly we really struggled in the first chukka against a very strong Rugby team. We did much better in the second chukka and just narrowly lost the match. This match was a warm up for yesterday’s tournament (also at Rugby polo club). The warm up match taught the girls a lot about the rules and tactics of arena polo and they all seemed to be looking forward to the tournament on the way back to Stowe.

Yesterday the girls were brilliant. They won the first match 4-0 against a decent Wellington team. They were narrowly beaten by Cheltenham in the semi final (missing two penalties) and then won 6-1 against Rugby in the 3rd/ 4th play-off match to finish third over all!

All the girls played well and all got their names on the score sheet. The marking was outstanding (particularly in the last match) and they made the most of the opportunities they had.

Congratulations to Sophie Carew, Issie Berner and Polly Anderson on a great start to a new era of polo at Stowe.
