Intermediate Schools' Polo Tournament

In the last ten days Stowe have played a number of matches to prepare them for the intermediate schools' tournament (which took place on Sunday 7th February).

They played top sides from Bloxham, Rugby, Wellington and Cheltenham and played incredibly well against these very good A school teams.

I am pleased to say that the training matches really paid off for them. Yesterday Stowe finished third in Division One and Fifth in Division two. Our A team played really well to win their first game against Cheltenham and last game against Wellington (where they came back from a goal down). Hector Worsley, Max Dodd-Noble and John Blount did the school proud in this top division and could have easily won the event (just losing narrowly in the second match).

Our B team (Oliver Clarke, Charles Hawkings-Byass and Alex Robertson) in some ways played even better than the A team. After just losing the opening match 1-0 in a match that could have gone either way, they composed themselves to win their final two matches to finish third. Oliver Clarke deserves a special mention as he played outstandingly and really took charge of the team. Great presence and great encouragement to his team mates.

The boys were excellent yesterday and were a real credit to the school. It was great that all bar one of the parents was able to attend and everyone there had a great day out (including myself).
