Rowing
Rowing is a developing sport at Stowe and is open to all students. The activity is based at Northampton Rowing Club (NRC) on the River Nene and we row three days a week after lessons, with Wednesday being the main practice session.
There is just over 2,000m of good, relatively straight and wide water available at Northampton and on most days Stowe is the only presence on the river. We share our equipment with NRC, which enables us to have access to a wider range of boats and equipment than would normally be available to a school. However, the School recently has made some significant in our own equipment and boats. As a relatively small, but rapidly growing club within the School, effort is concentrated on sculling rather than rowing, however, as the squad develops, Stowe hopes to include Sweep oar rowing in the sessions.
Stowe has the use of one Octuple (8x+), three Quads (4x, 4x+), eight double sculls (2x), 12 single sculls (1x), two Virus training singles and a TS515 Training Scull. Three safety launches (one owned by Stowe and two owned by the NRC) are available to help with coaching sessions as well as acting as safety boats.
Rowing at Stowe is able to take in pupils of all abilities from complete beginners to those with extensive experience in the sport.
