Basketball

Basketball is played in our well-equipped sports hall. As well as the main goals there are also 6 practice goals which enables small group practices and greater participation across the width of the hall. There is also a wall-mounted electronic scoreboard. Stoics are introduced to basketball during time-tabled P.E. lessons and Stoics who wish to further develop their basketball skills have the opportunity to do so during afternoon activities.

The main basketball term is the Lent term during which there are many inter-School matches against other public schools and the local maintained schools. For many years the School has run boys teams at U19 and U16 level. Basketball runs alongside the main sport of the term which is hockey and has proved to be highly popular and successful over the years. First and foremost, basketball is played for enjoyment, however, the practices and matches serve to develop self confidence, a sense of belonging, high skill levels, self-discipline, fair play and the ability to win and lose gracefully.

Stowe also hosts an annual Prep School Basketball Tournament and numerous inter-House competitions on Sunday afternoons. We have had Stoics go on to represent their University in basketball.
