Athletics

Stowe has a rich history in track and field success, dating back to the 1960's with a number of Stoics gaining international honours in 100m, Relay, 800m and Triple Jump. With the addition of the state-of-the-art athletics track on site, Stowe plays host each Summer to the local district schools trials and school matches. The English Schools Cup Competition, together with the County Schools Championships and English Schools Championships provide a good pathway to elite competition. In the Summer of 2011, 29 Stoics were selected for the County Schools Athletics Championships, one of which being selected for the National Finals in Gateshead. In addition, Stowe host a handful of school athletics matches in the Summer term, competing with the likes of Cheltenham, Uppingham, Aylesbury Grammar and Oundle amongst others.
Athletics sees one of the major Inter House events in the Summer term take place. Sports Day runs throughout the afternoon, with both boys and girls Houses across Junior, Intermediate and Senior age groups competing in a number of athletics events. Due to the unusually coloured green synthetic track, athletics is available during activities throughout the whole year. Stoics from any year group can practice disciplines ranging from Hurdles, High Jump, Javelin, Sprinting and Middle Distance.
