Anthony Macpherson - Housemaster
Anthony joined Stowe in September 2011 from Oakham where he held the position of Assistant Housemaster, Teacher of Religion and Philosophy and Head of Subject for the IB Theory of Knowledge course. However, despite his strong academic credentials, he is also an excellent sportsman and musician. Anthony is joined by his wife Caroline, who is currently in her final year of the GP training programme.

Pamela Dennison - Matron
Throughout her childhood, Pam traveled extensively following her father as he toured with the army and she experienced boarding as a child. Pam has four children of her own. There is no doubting her energy, but perhaps more important is her caring and nurturing nature. She enjoys a range of interests, including flower arranging, gardening, swimming, walking, drawing, painting and decorating, knitting, antiques and collectors fairs, boot sales and anything to do with theatre, ballet and opera. Since arriving in Temple, Pam has put to good use her hairdressing skills as well as expanding her talents to be a provider of cakes, baking and freshly cleaned cricket whites.

Gwilym Jones - Assistant Housemaster and Third Form Tutor
After Stonyhurst, Gwilym graduated from the University of Bristol with a BA Hons in German. He moved to Stowe in September 2008, from Somerset, with Luci and their daughter Anna, joining our Modern Languages Department. Gwilym's interests are in the outdoors and he likes to spend as much time as School commitments allow hiking and kiting the beaches of South Wales.
Huw Jones - Resident Tutor
In addition to his role in Temple, Huw is the Assistant Director of Music and Chapel Organist. Huw, from Reading (but originally Wales!), was a pupil at Reading School before going to Robinson College, Cambridge, where he studied Music and was organ scholar. After this he qualified as a chartered accountant, before realising that music was his calling in life! Directly before joining Stowe, Huw held the post of Musician in Resident at Haileybury in Herfordshire. In addition to music, he enjoys hiking, cycling and overseas travel.
Tony McDaid - Fourth Form Tutor
Tony joined Stowe in September 1991 having previously taught at Bearwood College and York House. He trained as a PE teacher at Exeter University before converting to Maths. Tony tutors the junior students across their GCSE years. He is currently Master-in-Charge of Cross Country. Tony is a keen runner himself and in 2002 he won the Middlesex Marathon in a time of 3hrs 8 mins.

Philip Arnold - Fifth Form Tutor
Cheltenham born and bred (though confusingly he claims to be Welsh). Phil went to Pate's Grammar School where he played rugby, hockey, and also cricket for Gloucestershire, going onto captain the West of England cricket side. He then studied Sport and Exercise Science at The University of Birmingham before joining Stowe in 2003. Passions include live music, surfing, skiing, photography and participating and watching all sports. Phil was previously Under Housemaster and is now Head of the Sport Science and PE Department and he also coaches rugby, the girls hockey 1st XI and the cricket 1st XI. At some point Phil intends to travel to every continent and lower his golf handicap to single figures by finding the fairway.

Tony Chan - Non Resident Tutor
Tony teaches English, having previously studied English, Latin and Law. Born in Hong Kong, Tony was brought up in Sydney. He has coached football in various countries including Spain, Italy and the Solomon Islands and Tony continues to coach a range of sports at Stowe. He is currently working on a couple of writing projects which we hope he will have time to continue. In the summer of 2008 he participated in a charity rally having driven there from London in a car worth less that £150!

History of Temple House
This was the family name of the founders of Stowe, though Viscount Cobham was the last to have this simple surname. After him the name was hyphenated with new family names in several generations. The family motto "Templa quam dilecta" (How lovely are thy Temples) is a pun or rebus on the surname and on the large number of garden buildings, known as 'temples'. The male line of succession and most of the family titles died with the 3rd Duke but some survived through female members of the family. The Cobham viscountcy passed to the Lyttelton family, a new earldom 'Temple of Stowe' was created for the descendants of the 2nd Duke's daughter, and the Scottish barony of Kinloss is held by the 3rd Duke's great-grand-daughter.
