Jane Hamblett-Jahn - Housemistress
Jane is delighted to be returning to Stowe as Housemistress of Queen's in September 2007 after a 6 year absence during which time she has had 2 children - Katarina and Alexander. She spent 10 happy years living in Nugent, Grenville and Lyttelton, where she was Housemistress from 1996-2001 when it was a Sixth Form girls' House. During her time at Stowe she was Head of the Economics, Politics and Business Studies Department, a Sixth Form Tutor and adviser on entrance to US universities. She was also involved in a number of the plethora of activities on offer - netball, swimming, drama, Duke of Edinburgh, CCF and lucky enough to accompany Stoics to such far flung destinations as Romania, Russia, Nepal, South America, USA and Holland. Jane says she is excited by the prospect of returning to the classroom to discuss the intricacies of supply and demand, to the side lines to cheer on Stowe teams and to the Roxburgh and Music Room to watch and listen in awe as Stoics perform. But, primarily she is looking forward to welcoming and getting to know her girls and together building Queen's House's character, culture and traditions.

Anne Reading - Matron
Continuing what is starting to look like a Queen's trend, Anne is also returning to Stowe having been Matron/Under Housemistress in Nugent from 1998-2006. She came to Queen's for a term in Spring 2008, enjoyed it so much she decided to stay! A decision her springer spaniel Freckles is very happy with - all those girls to take him for walks and lakes to swim in... Anne's step-daughter Joanna was one of Jane's old girls in Lyttelton. Prior to working at Stowe, Anne worked with people with learning difficulties and, more recently, with a young autistic child in a primary school near her home in Shropshire. Her interests include riding, country pursuits, movies and travel. She can also be persuaded to join the girls in doing the daily crosswords.

Lucy Ashe - Assistant Housemistress and Fifth Form Tutor
Lucy joined Queen's as Under Housemistress in September 2010. She also teaches English to all year groups and spends her afternoons coaching cross country running, teaching ballet and aerobic classes and preparing pupils for their Duke of Edinburgh award. She can be seen most days with her trainers on, running around the beautiful School grounds. She came to Stowe from Oxford University after studying English Literature and teaching ballet to fellow students. She is trying to infuse a love of dance into the School after her own training for five years at The Royal Ballet School and is enjoying seeing these extra activities growing for the girls. Her English teaching is fuelled by a desire to get young people to read and enjoy the vast supply of enjoyment and cultural wealth available to them, as well as helping them to gain the skills required to communicate effectively. Lucy is a Tutor in Queen's and enjoys helping the girls to work out how best to use their time as well as getting to know such lively and enthusiastic young people.

Hannah Knott - Under Housemistress and Third Form Tutor
Hannah has lived in Kent most of her life. She moved on to study Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University for four years, including a year in industry. During her placement year Hannah worked as a Product Designer, designing children's educational toys, and she also managed a Sixth Form college project in Ashfold to develop the students design skills and have the company manufacture the best design. She has always had an interest in product design in education and went on to write her dissertation about the influences toys have in a child's learning. Graduating in the Summer of 2011, Hannah has come straight into Stowe as her first teaching position.
When not in the Design Department teaching, you will find her out on the sports field. Hannah has been known to have a go at most sports, but is a keen hockey player and coaches the 2nd XI girl's team.
Hannah is a Third Form Tutor in Queen's and thoroughly enjoys the pastoral side as Under Housemistress as she can build relationships with Stoics she wouldn't neccessarily teach.

Carol Miller - Fourth Form Tutor
Carol was born and educated in Northern Ireland, gained a BA from Queen's University Belfast and then a Post Graduate Diploma in Librarianship. She worked in Public and College Libraries in Belfast and Devon before marrying husband Paul and moving to Sussex where they worked together as Head of English and School Librarian at Worth Abbey for over 20 years. They both moved to Stowe in 2003 and their daughter Kate is now a Housemistress in Cheltenham, so education definitely runs in the blood! Initially Carol worked as a tutor in Temple for 5 years before transferring to Lyttelton and was then delighted to be asked to join Queen's at the start of this year to share the Fourth Form Tutoring with Brittany Butler. As well as being the Librarian, Carol is mentor to the Harvard Scholar and President of the Staff Common Room. She enjoys reading (!!), travelling and cooking but is at her happiest when sitting round a table with her husband, daughter and close friends, enjoying good food and wine or walking along her favourite beach on the North coast of Ireland.

Zoe Cass - Non Resident Tutor 2
Zoë came to Stowe in September 2006 as a teacher of Geography and Head of Girl's Hockey. She was attached to Lyttelton House as a Fourth Form Tutor until her transfer to Queen's in September 2007, as Under Housemistress and Third Form Tutor. Zoë is thoroughly enjoying living and working within such a vibrant and energetic House community. She is helping organise the Coldstream Cup team and is actively supporting all of the Queen's House residents to fully engulf themselves into boarding life at Stowe. Zoë enjoys spending her summers traveling and experiencing different cultures and traditions. She is a fan of skiing and enjoys 'hitting the piste' in the winter and Easter holidays (snow permitting!). She is originally from Bath and is a huge supporter of Bath Rugby. Zoë's passion for 'getting involved in all that Stowe has to offer' means that she supports and encourages the sports teams, theatre productions and musical events, all of which Stowe offers in abundance.

The Opening of Queen's House
We are delighted Queen's House is now fully open and that our Queen's girls were able to move from Stanhope into their new House at the start of the Lent term in January 2008.
We were honoured that the House was officially opened in the true sense of the word by Her Majesty The Queen on her visit to Stowe on Thursday 29 November 2007. Stowe was privileged to host Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh for lunch and an afternoon at Stowe which enabled us to show our guests what Stowe has to offer.
Introducing Queen's House
Situated in the area adjacent to the Chapel, Chatham House and Bruce House, the design and materials are creating a building for the 21st Century which will sit comfortably within the traditional surroundings of Stowe. On the southern side, a re-landscaped avenue of trees will be planted along the original Eighteenth Century alignment to the Temple of Bacchus.
The new building is being built to the highest modern, environmentally friendly standards. Careful thought has been given to the interior layout, to provide sympathetic space and light, particularly suited to girls of differing year groups.
The four-storey houses comprise:
- A number of Common Rooms
- A variety of shared and single study/bedrooms, all with ensuite facilities
- A dedicated area for day girls
- Music practice rooms
- Sports kit changing areas
- Accommodation for House Mistress, Under Housemistress, Matron and other staff
- Tutor's Office
- Laundry
- Store Rooms
