Biomedical Society
The Biomedical Society (BiomedSoc for short) is an informal discussion group aimed at Sixth Formers who are hoping to apply for university subjects such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Biochemistry.
BiomedSoc takes place on a weekday evening. Participants are each invited to research and present a biomedical-themed talk once a term. The size of the group usually allows for a nine-week rotation, so for each talk a student gives, they get eight thought-provoking presentations to listen to and discuss. Drinks and nibbles are provided for each session.
The aim of the society is to provide insight into the applications process for biomedical degrees, as well as giving students experiences and issues to discuss at university interviews.
The highlight of the BiomedSoc calendar is a visit to the Oxford University Medical School. The society runs a minibus to Oxford and organises a first-rate tour of a real university department. In the current year, a schedule of guest speakers is being arranged. This will include ex-Stoics currently studying Medicine, as well as current working medical and veterinary professionals.
Many Stowe leavers have commented that BiomedSoc gave them invaluable experience that was a contributing factor towards their university interview success.
