Overview and Vision

The Stowe House Preservation Plan is a major project of crucial development and restoration. It is bringing together numerous people, all working with the long term vision and goal of returning the site to its former glory and to continue its history. In the short term, this involves restoring the House so that it becomes, as it was designed, the principle temple in Stowe's Gardens, and in re-uniting and restoring the Gardens. During the course of the project Stowe School, having carried the responsibility of the stewardship of one of Europe's great houses since 1923, will continue to inhabit and use the House.

The original project involved restoring exterior stonework and historic interiors in six major phases, which are as follows:

Phase One - The  restoration of the North Front and Colonnades.

Phase Two - The restoration of the Central Pavilion and South Portico.

Phase Three - The restoration of the South Front.

Phase Four - The restoration of the West Pavilions and building range.

Phase Five - The restoration of the Eastern Pavilions and building range.

Phase Six - The restoration of the State Rooms.

Phases One and Two have been successfully completed, but overtime, this project plan has been altered to adapt to the current fundraising situation. To find out more about the restoration and Stowe House Preservation Trust, follow the links on the left.
