Getting Involved

During its heyday, the Stowe Estate required an army of people to help run efficiently. In the 21st century this still holds true. Stowe School employs hundreds of full-time and part time staff who teach, clean and cook for the pupils as well as those who maintain the buildings and grounds and non-academic staff to help support the academic staff and raise funds for the School and House. The National Trust has a small team of paid staff who are supported by a large volunteer base working in the Gardens. As Stowe House becomes more accessible to the public there are plenty of volunteering opportunities to help support the work of Stowe House Preservation Trust.

Volunteering Opportunities

Room Stewards supervise the State Rooms, partly to ensure security and partly to provide information about the rooms to visitors. This role would suit someone who enjoys talking to the public and communicating information.

Tour Guides bring the House alive for visitors by leading short guided tours around the State Rooms. The House and family has an amazing story so this role would suit someone who enjoys public speaking and learning historical facts.

All these volunteer roles report to the Stowe House Visitor Services Manager. An informal interview will be requested before taking up the post and full training will be given for each of the positions but some interest in your chosen post would be an advantage. A CRB check, which we will arrange, will be necessary for each role.

If you are interested in helping out at Stowe House but are not sure which post would suit you best then please contact us for an informal chat.

Other ways to help

The Stowe House Preservation Trust is a registered charity and we are always looking to raise funds for the continued restoration of the building.
Working along side great public donors such as Heritage Lottery Fund, English Heritage and World Monuments Fund, we raise match funding for the restoration projects and are dependant upon generous private donors. With out public support and interest we would not be able to preserve the great house of Stowe, nor open it to the public.

If you are looking for the various ways by you can make a gift to Stowe House then please click through to the Campaign for Stowe page which outlines the next restoration project and how every little helps.
