Any of our workshops can be combined with visits to Stowe Gardens, which are looked after by the National Trust.

Treasures of Stowe – stories, myths and legends

Early Years and Key Stage One

Support your children’s literacy learning while having fun in our amazing historic House!

Throughout their time, they will be collecting elements of a story that is an ancient myth with connection to Stowe. The day finishes with a re-telling and acting out of the story. There will be plenty of focus on narrative features and chances for review and prediction through our creative and hands-on activities.

House Detectives

Early Years and Key Stage One

What’s this I’ve found?? Come to Stowe and piece together the missing puzzle pieces in Stowe’s history. Become house detectives, investigating the clues found in letters, mini-beasts, measuring sticks, and mysterious suitcases!

This cross-curricular workshop encourages a highly creative and holistic learning style, drawing on different elements of both the EYFS and KS1 curriculum.

Get hands-on in the State Rooms at Stowe, and leave your own little clue in the continually developing story of Stowe.

Stories through Time: legacy of Greek or Roman culture

Key Stage Two

Let your children explore the classical beauty of Stowe House while in role as ancient storytellers!

Your visit will focus on how Greek or Roman culture has given us many fantastic stories as well as beautiful sculptures, stunning paintings and breath-taking architecture. Groups will hear a selection of myths, discover how the classical gods appear around our building and have the chance for a literacy-based follow-up project.

The emphasis throughout will be on fun, role-play and hands-on involvement.

Face to Face – exploring portraits

Key Stage Two

How do you compare to a great painting master? Come to Stowe and bring its portraits to life!

In this fast-paced workshop, you will recreate four important portraits through teamwork and role-play. Your visit will start by being given a character to explore, and whose portrait you must recreate by the end of the day. Discover more about the different people that lived at Stowe, and how their portraits reflect their achievements.

This cross-curricular workshop also explores the science of making paint, how light and colours move, the emotive language of art and more! Phew!

Please note that this workshop uses raw egg tempura paint. Please advise of allergens on booking.
