J.F Roxburgh

(1888 - 1951)

The first headmaster of Stowe School at the age of 35. The ethos of the school sprung from him and has remained ever since. Considered the first humanitarian headmaster of a top public school, he was dedicated to both his boys and to the historic aspect of Stowe. Seeing thousands of pupils go through his door, he was deeply affected by many of 'his boys' dying during World War II.
