The course today

Hole 1 (Home Park) 122 yards

This is a tricky par 3 to start your round. Beware of the bunker in front of the green. Long hitters, the area behind the green falls away quickly, and there are trees which can make the pitch back difficult.

Hole 2 (Chatham) 281 yards

A par 4 with a slight dogleg. The men’s tee has recently been lengthened, but some ‘big’ hitters can still nearly make the green. The trees on the right often come into play as the fairway slopes that way, which can make for an awkward second shot. The green, in front of Chatham House, is guarded by a bunker on the right.

Hole 3 (Copper Beech) 296 yards

Before driving off on this par 4 hole, take a moment to admire the view. A wide fairway gives room for the drive, but do not aim too far left or right or you will be in the trees. A wayward shot near the green can end up in the conifers, which is a nasty place to play from. The green is protected by a bunker on the right.

Hole 4 (Rotunda) 409 yards

The longest hole on the course, with a dogleg, but still a par 4. It starts with a tight drive between trees. There is an elevated green protected by bunkers either side and trees and bushes behind. A feature is the Rotunda with the Statue of Venus as you approach the green.

Hole 5 (Hog Pond) 186 yards

A very difficult par 3, considered one of the most difficult in the county. The drive is a narrow one between trees on the left and a copse on the right. The hole is uphill with a strategically placed bunker before the green. A hole in one was achieved here June 2009. Some achievement!

Hole 6 (Doric) 242 yards

A splendid hole visually. The tee, for this short par 4, is in front of the South Front, with a view down to the Octagon Lake. Many players hope to achieve a birdie here.
(Alternative tee for hole 15)

Hole 7 (Old Acacia) 312yards

A difficult par 4, with a 90º dogleg. The drive is back towards the South Front. There is a large yew tree on the bend waiting to catch a miscued ball. The green is near the Rotunda and is protected by a bunker on the right.
(Alternative tee for hole 16)

Hole 8 (Lakeside) 302 yards

A par 4 with ‘Out of Bounds’ all down the left. The drive is downhill, across a ditch, on to a fairway which turns 45º to the left. A sloping green is protected by a bunker on the right.
(Alternative tee for hole 17)

Hole 9 (Caroline) 112 yards

A final par 3 with the statue of Queen Caroline watching as
one tees off. There are trees and bushes along the left, and some clinging rough, most of the way to the green, which has a bunker on the right. A hole not to be taken lightly.

All measurements are taken from the white tees. There is not much difference for red and yellow distances except the second, fourth and the eighth holes.
