Life before Stowe

I taught at Tudor Hall School, Banbury. I researched 17th century Roman Drawings for a Catalogue published by The British Museum, having returned from a PhD course at university in USA.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

The study of beautiful and fascinating works of art and architecture and relating them to the historical, social and cultural contexts in which they were created.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

Teaching Stoics my subject in one of the most beautiful environments for an Art Historian.

What is your favourite Lesson?

Enthusing about Bernini’s sculpture, The Ecstasy of St Teresa, in Rome. A fascinating and stunning work of art that says much about religious and cultural concepts of the 17th and 21st centuries.

What do others say about you?

Intellectually demanding and interested in many differing subjects. Leader of many much-enjoyed Upper Sixth trips to Italy and Europe. Excellent Tutor to tutees and others (honorary tutees) with high expectations.

Other hats

Deputy Head (Academic); formerly Master in Charge of Polo. Loyally attached to Chatham House.

Passions

I very much enjoy live theatre, concerts and opera. In the holidays I always have lots of books to read. I've even been known to enjoy gardening!
