Life before Stowe
I completed a degree at Durham University between 1997 and 2000. I managed to get a job straight out of University working for the English Hockey Association as a Regional Development Manager. I then worked as a Development officer for Sport England and Teesside Sport. This was when I wanted to be more hands on in my approach to Sport so I took a job coaching outdoor and adventurous activities in the Lake District. After a period of travelling I then took up a post of Hockey professional at Stowe and haven't managed to get away yet!
What do you enjoy most about your subject?
The subject has huge variety from practical work to theory. So much of it is contemporary and relevant to pupils.
What is your favourite Lesson?
A difficult question....I think I enjoy teaching an Upper Sixth theory lesson on performance-enhancing drugs. There are so many examples in sport today and the pupils tend to be very engaged and interested in the subject. The question 'should we allow performance enhancing drugs in sport' always generates a good debate.
Other hats
I am Master in Charge of Hockey, as well as the Silver Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. I ave responsibility for practical PE, the Anacrenon society, and am a tutor in Walpole House. Finally I'm the U15A cricket coach.
Passions
I have a huge interest in the outdoors and adventurous activities. I also like travelling especially when it is linked to watching international sport.
