Life before Stowe

I was a telecommunications engineer working on radio paging and on-site wireless, two-way speech communications systems. In the early 80s I made the decision to go into teaching. My first teaching post was at Reigate Grammar School; the second was at King Henry VIII School in Coventry, and then Stowe.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

Practical work, data analysis. New experiments. Sixth Form practical investigations and research. New kit and toys to play with!

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

The drive in and the drive out. The Leavers' Ball and playing in the Roxy or Cobham Court to Stoics.

What is your favourite Lesson?

The linear induction motor, using switches and the shaded pole motor. Explaining the moving magnetic field and getting a cart to follow it!

Other hats

2nd XV rugby, Development Rugby, I'm in charge of Fourth Form CCF and field days. I'm also a Sixth Form Tutor, a member of 'Plug Street', the staff band!

Passions

Playing bass guitar for two bands - I enjoy most pre-90s music and I have a massive selection of music. I also enjoy scuba diving (as a divemaster), motorcycling, painting watercolours and acrylic. Finally I really enjoy coaching rugby.
