Life before Stowe

I taught at Haileybury, a rival Rugby Group school! Before that I worked in business for three years and qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

Having started piano at the age of 3, I can truly say music is my absolute passion. I love the subconscious power of music to change things: emotions, perceptions, even decisions.

What do you enjoy most about Stowe?

The walk to work, from my Temple flat to the Roxy, across the idyllic South Front...my walk to work prior to being a teacher used to involve crossing a rough council estate in Eastleigh!

What is your favourite Lesson?

It varies from year to year: this year I have particularly enjoyed teaching the Upper Sixth the course on 20th Century vocal music. They find certain repertoire in this period very challenging to listen to - as I did when I was their age - but I see it as part of my duty to encourage a much broader outlook from them, which I hope I have achieved.

What do others say about you?

I think almost all Stoics know who I am as they see me playing the organ most days in Chapel - I've once been referred to as 'that tall music teacher', which is accurate as I measure in at a modest 6'5"! Personality-wise, I'm viewed as friendly, loyal and fairly easy-going, both in the Music Department and in House.

Passions

Other than music, I love cycling, going out with friends, going to see musicals and travelling abroad. One of my dreams is to hire a red Chevrolet convertible and drive from New York to Los Angeles with friends!
