In addition to the academic timetable the studios and workshops within the Design Department are open to all Year Groups at specific times during the week. This is normally via the weekly 'activity time' (where pupils can opt into key activities as part of the busy activity programme that Stowe offers). The timings for these activities are published in the School calendar and handbooks. In addition to this, the Department is available on the weekends (currently between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday). The majority of Stoics use these opportunities to spend extra time on existing coursework, however many choose to pursue the manufacture of individual projects or simply to 'tinker' on the repair of bicycles, play-stations, iPods and other personal items when needed! All these sessions are in addition to normal timetabled lessons and allow pupils a greater access to the facilities. This allows them the opportunity to complete ambitious coursework projects or simply to explore further their own interests in the subject of industrial and product design and manufacture.Stoics who do not follow an examination course in the subject are just as welcome as those who follow one of the challenging Design & Technology courses at GCSE, AS and A2 level. Stoics should be aware that the Lent term in particular is quite busy regarding manufacture with many examination groups making good use of the extra time that is available to them. As a consequence, spaces in the Department may be limited so priority will be given to examination candidates at these times. We look forward to seeing you!
